Do you need a lot of loudness in a small package?

SMT version of miniature magnetic transducers represent a suitable alternative to classic loudspeakers, if you´re limited by space.

SDT083A and SDT0845 from company DB Products belong to a group of so called “transducers“, which might seem as a piezo component, at the first sight. But it´s not like that. SDT083A and SDT0845 are so called magnetic transducers where a driving element is a miniature coil and a magnet, not a piezo element. This results in various parameters and differences in comparison to piezo components:

• firstly, they can be connected to any common amplifier, as they represent a common load with a resistive-inductive character (not capacitive like piezo).

• when we test them by an Ohmmeter, we can measure some value (in this case 16 or 30 Ohms). So it´s possible to easily check continuity (integrity) of a coil

• frequency response (characteristics) is more equal and they don´t have so sharp peak at a resonant frequency.

A look at a frequency response of both types says, that they´re preferably intended for speech and with some limitations also for music – however naturally without low frequencies. In principle, these are miniature pressure (horn) loudspeakers, that´s why they feature a very high efficiency, in respect to small dimensions of these components. Dimensions – they are really small – 8.5x8.5x3.2mm or 8.5x8.5x4mm. These loudspeakers are typical representatives of components used in miniature consumer electronics like mobile phones and tablets. It´s positive, that especially type SDT083A has a very wide range of guaranteed operating temperatures from -40 to +105°C.

A value „Rated voltage“ can be considered as a maximum recommended AC voltage on the components pins. Naturally, if we don´t need a max. volume, nothing prevents to decrease power of amplifier.

In contrast to common amplifiers with 4 or 8 Ohms impedance, these have 16 or 30 Ohms, that´s why they need somewhat higher voltage to reach the same power. However this difference is in praxis usually dismissible and it should be taken in consideration only at devices with a very low supply voltage.

In our stable stock offer we keep types SDT083A3BLFMP and SDT0845ALFMP. SDT0845A has somewhat wider and more equal frequency response.
