Electric battery invented by Alessandro Volta has been technically advanced many times. Georges Leclanché pressed a carbon powder together with manganese oxides to create one electrode. The second electrode was zinc. The electrolyte was the solution of ammonium chloride used as a paste and not in the liquid form. He created so-called dry batteries that had a little internal resistance and the ability to produce high current at a much longer life.
