From Vancouver through Fanning and Fiji Islands in Queensland and in New Zealand, a submarine cable line in the length of 14,516 km was built. After the discovery of waterproof cable, the intensity and extent of laying telegraph cable across the ocean have increased substantially. In 1902, about 380 000 km of submarine cables were laid around the world.
