Unlike LED or LCD displays, electromagnetic displays have every segment of a digit controlled by electromagnets, by means of two coils - set / reset. Principle is similar to a bi-stable relay, thus for activation/ deactivation is necessary only a pulse 12V/ 350 mA lasting 90-150 ms according to a type of display. This also means, that the display has a zero power consumption at rest, e.g. power is necessary only for a change of status in a form of a short impuls.
They are available in sizes from 10 to 58 cm, with white or yellow segments and a black background and in 2 versions: without or with a rear-mounted circuit board including connectors for easy attachment of ribbon cable and power wires. They are suitable to display for exampple these parameters: currency or a price (petrol signage), scoreboads – time/ speed, weight at industrial scales, motel rooms prices, time and temperature, various industrial measures and many other.
