Actually, prices of most often used sizes of SMT capacitors and especially resistors dropped down so significantly during past 10 years, that a manipulation, counting, stocking and other activities are often more costly than the price of components themselves. All this only confirms that it´s worth to work with them as efficiently as possible. From this point of view, clearly the most efficient is the work with components in reels.
You may have noticed, that in our offer of SMT passive components, many items can also be found on 2 cards, while one of them is marked as „reel“. As already name says, the card marked as „reel“ stands for a whole package – i.e. 1 reel. Usually it is 4000 pcs of capacitors in 0603/0805/1206 sizes and 5000 pcs of resistors in 0603/0805/1206 sizes. That´s why also a minimum purchase is at these cards set to 4000 or 5000 pcs and whole multiples of this amount.
What does it bring to you? :
● an assurance, that when you order a given component from a card marked as “reel”, you´ll get the desired SMT components in a whole unpacked reel, what is in the most cases a necessity for machine placing of components. In every company engaged in machine soldering of components will welcome you with a smile if you bring them components in reels instead of pieces of tapes.
● using components in reels with a lead-in tape you´ll avoid useless losses and eliminate the risk of confusion (especially at SMT capacitors) and last but not least, components in reels are usually easier to stock.
● a substantially lower price. Price at “reel” cards is substantially lower, mostly in more than 50%. If you compare the price of an 0603 resistor at purchase of 1000 pcs with the reel price, you´ll find out the price at the reel dropped down in almost -70%.
That´s why if you need for example 6000 pcs of 0603 resistors, we recommend you to order 1 package from the reel card (5000pcs) and the rest 1000 pcs from another card, where also smaller amounts are available. We also recommend you to calculate whether it wouldn´t be more profitable to you to take whole reels – it is often useful even if you only need say a half of a reel at the moment.
